About Bed Sores

What is a Bed Sore?

Bed Sores commonly known as Pressure Sores or Pressure Ulcers are very serious therefore must not be ignored. When a person stays in one position for long without changing, the skin can break down and become a wound called a bed sore.

Where do Bed Sores occur?

Bed Sores occur on areas of the skin that are under pressure from lying in bed, sitting in a wheelchair, or wearing a cast for a prolonged period. The areas at risk to bed sores include the hips, ankles, heels, elbows, ears, spine, shoulder blades, and pressure points on the lower back.

Who Gets Bed Sores?

Bed Sores can develop in people who are bedridden for prolonged period or use a wheelchair (due to some injury e.g. spinal cord injuries). Bed Sores are also called Decubitus Ulcers.
