Generalized Hyperhidrosis

 

The most common causes of generalized hyperhidrosis are heat, humidity, and exercise. However, a systemic disease may also be a cause of generalized hyperhidrosis; therefore, the physicians must look for an underlying disorder. Generalized hyperhidrosis usually begins in adulthood, and the sweating occurs during both waking and sleeping. Therefore, often referred to as sleep hyperhidrosis. Possible causes of generalized hyperhidrosis include:

  • Infections such as tuberculosis
  • Malignancies
  • Metabolic diseases such as diabetes
  • Menopause
  • Severe physiologic stress
  • Antidepressant medications
