Dyshidrotic Hand Dermatitis

Dyshitric hand dermatitis is commonly known as hand eczema or hand dermatitis. It is a skin condition in which a rash is developed on the hands which then turns red, dry, cracks up, and becomes inflamed. This disease is not contagious but can be cause of great deal of discomfort. When it flames up this condition can eventually cause pain on contact with even simple solutions such as water. Hand dermatitis results from a combination of causes, including genetic makeup (constitutional factors), injury (contact with irritants) and allergy. It is frequently caused or aggravated by work, when it is known as occupational dermatitis. Hand dermatitis is particularly common in industries involving hard labor or contact with bacteria like cleaning, catering, metalwork, hairdressing, healthcare and mechanical work.

One common factor that leads to dermatitis is frequent immersion of the hands in water. The possibilities increase many folds if the hand is also exposed to detergents like hairdressers to shampoos and solvents like painters to paints, as these eventually strip the skin of its natural protective layer. Thus the skin becomes more sensitive to the skin conditions. If this disorder is properly managed and treated it recovers completely. So in the cases you are working the above mentioned works you might take a couple of days off. This precaution should be taken especially considering that if you work and it gets severe it might take many months to heal. In mild cases moisturizing creams might be helpful but in cases it becomes severe topical steroids might be prescribed.
