Spider Veins Types

Veins carry blood low in oxygen content from the body to the lungs and heart. The term Spider Veins is often used in conjunction with Varicose Veins. However, these are different.

Spider Veins:

Spider Veins are also known as telangiectasias, broken veins (capillaries), or sunburst varicosities. These small, red, blue, or purple blood vessels lie close to the skin. Spider Veins can appear in a spider-like shape with a group of veins. They may also appear as tiny-branch like shapes, or appear as linear Spider Veins.

Varicose veins:

These are different from Spider Veins as they are larger, darker in color, and tend to bulge. Varicose veins are also more likely to cause pain and related to more serious vein disorders. Although Sclerotherapy can treat certain cases of varicose veins, surgical treatment is often necessary.
